Currently we are in the first phase of chartering our local. UCW @ UofSC's work began in the Fall of 2019, organizing around health care benefits and cost for university employees, lack of democracy and transparency related to the establishment of the University's leadership (particularly the hiring of Bob Caslen, ostensibly due to the illegal interference of South Carolina's Governor, Henry McMaster, into the nation-wide job search, a job search that failed to consider one female candidate for the post,) acts of racism and racist vandalism on campus without appropriate response from the University's bureaucracy, and concerns regarding access to a livable wage, benefits, job protection, and regular raises for graduate students and campus staff.

The time is now, especially now, as we all battle both the coronavirus and the government's criminal malpractice and incompetence, to come together, for each other and for the state of South Carolina, and organize to make our voices and demands heard. Working at the University of South Carolina and across the state, at academic institutions, companies, small-business and so on, should guarantee basic human rights, not demand that workers continue to labor under precarious conditions.

Change is coming. We will not stop. We will not be silenced. Join us.
